And it’s about children that need a voice.
Can you imagine what it feels like to be a small child and today you have to go to court?
You have been placed in foster care. You feel so alone and going to court is very scary, sad and overwhelming. Thankfully, there is someone to hold your hand during this difficult time. This special person is called a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Your CASA has been trained and appointed by the judge to be your person. She is with you on this big day and she is not leaving your side. She also brought you some shoes to wear to school last week, when all you had was slippers. Your CASA volunteer is the one constant person in your life right now.
When children are taken into foster care, they usually don't have time to pack a bag and bring their own toothbrushes, pajamas, and other personal items. Sometimes, the foster family doesn't have much warning either. "Foster the Love" prepares First Night Bags that are filled with clothing and other essentials and are given to the children as they enter care - often in the middle of the night.
The more I learned about CASA and Foster the Love, the more I wanted to do something. It is my honor to support "CASA of SoLA" and "Foster the Love" at its upcoming event "Superhero Celebration" by donating the above painting for their auction. The Superhero Celebration will honor these hardworking volunteers on March 19, 2020 at the Double Tree by Hilton in Lafayette, LA.
